FEATURED ARTIST: Parker MacCready

I have been drawing my whole life, enchanted by the magic that turns simple lines and marks into images. The accumulated drawings are an illustrated diary of my past. They are different from photos because each represents a pause where I let myself fall into that calm place of gazing for a long time.

I love many types of drawing. The precise graphics of Durer, the permission Van Gogh gave us to make fields of marks, the thrill of brush and black ink, the magic of making light by erasing.

After a long career studying ocean physics, I have taken up oil painting. At this point I have no consistent style. Each painting is its own unique struggle. I'm influenced by whatever artist I'm studying at the time: Sergeant, Bonnard, Van Gogh, Cassat, Diebenkorn, Munch, Caravaggio.

What I choose to paint is much like my drawings. Family, the woods, my wife's farm animals. Lately I have been doing urban plein air around downtown Olympia, setting up for a few days at a time at places I would usually drive past without noticing. I hope my paintings help you stop and see your world in a new way.

The application to participate in the 2027 South Sound Studio Tour

OPENS November 7, 2026!

Plan to submit 3 - 5 images of your work by December 31, 2026.

If accepted, the fee to participate is $35. If this is a barrier, please reach out to olyssst@gmail.com for financial assistance.

2027 Tour dates: May 22-23, 2027 | 11am - 4pm

SKILL SHARING

Do you have knowledge or skills to share?

Our mission is to support and enhance the creative practice of artists in our region! If you have skills or knowledge you would like to share with other artists and/or the public through a workshop let us know and we will publicize it for you in the newsletter. It could be anything from a studio technique, to how to set up a teaching studio, to new ways to promote your work. Just send us a description of the workshop(s) and the relevant information (date, time, fee if you are charging one, materials needed or provided, necessary prior experience, etc.). Send the information to olyssst@gmail.com.

Volunteers can help the Tour throughout the year with outreach, fundraising, artist opportunities and more. We are already organizing volunteers for this year!
